ALBERT EDWARD SWAIN On November 13, 1999, at the age of 75 years, Albert entered into the peaceful presence of the Lord after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer disease. Albert will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lillian; children, Douglas (Elizabeth) of Moncton, Gordon (Gail) of Kingston, Joanne (Glenn) and Robert (Theresa) of Winnipeg, and grandchildren, Noel, Rowan, Joshua, Zachary, Michael, Kevin and Nicole. He will also be fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law, Marguerite Merlevede, Judith Huyghe of Conrad, Montana and nephew David Huyghe (Linda, son Robert) of Seattle. He was predeceased by his mother Josephine in 1966 and father Albert Sr. in 1968. Albert was born on July 16, 1924. He grew up in Norwood and attended Holy Cross School and St. Pauls College. He served in the navy during the Second World War. He married Lillian on September 25, 1948. Albert was a mechanical draftsman who worked at Hudson Bay, Air Canada and Bristol Aerospace. In 1966, he became a vocational teacher and taught at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon and later at Tec Voc High School. He retired in 1987. Albert was a caring husband and father, who was devoted to family life through the years. He had a talent for fixing, designing and building things; everything from kitchen cabinets to his first house. He enjoyed photography, and a good game of chess, golf or curling with old friends. Albert especially loved the outdoors. Together with family and friends, many day-long hikes were enjoyed in the Whiteshell. As well, he spent many hours cross-country skiing and canoeing. In later years, Albert and Lillian got into birding, and were rarely far away from their binoculars as a result. Albert lost so much to Alzheimers during the past 10 years, but even so, he remained well-liked because of his gentle nature, by those who worked and lived with him. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all the staff at Park Manor Personal Care Home, with very special thanks to the staff on 2nd Floor North for their friendship, kindness and compassionate care of Albert. Cremation has taken place. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, November 18 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, 300 Donalda Ave. Interment to follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alberts memory to the Alzheimer Society of Winnipeg, 120 Donald St. R3C 3R6, or Park Manor Personal Care Home.
