MARY EVELYN JACK Mary Evelyn Jack, 93, died peacefully November 14, 1999 at the home of her daughter in South Brook, Cumberland County. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Jack and Nancy Jack Todd; four grandchildren, Sarah Jack Hinners and Rebecca, Jonathan and Susannah Todd and six great grandchildren. Evelyn Jack was born in Winnipeg to John and Minnie McGavin. After her mothers death she was brought up by her grandmother, to whom she remained devoted. She was an excellent student, graduating summa cum laude from the University of Manitoba at the age of nineteen. In 1929 she married Vaughn Ainsworth Jack, also of Winnipeg. His position with General Motors Acceptance Corporation took them to South Africa, Argentina and the United States as well as several cities across Canada. After Mr. Jacks retirement they travelled extensively. Evelyn was an extremely private person, devoted to her family. Determined that her children should not feel buffeted by all the travel, she wove a close-knit family life, giving them a strong sense of connection and security. In her later years she took great delight in her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Despite Parkinsons Disease, Mrs. Jack maintained her own apartment in London, Ont. until well into her eighties. She then divided her time between her daughters homes in Cape Cod and South Brook. After a severe fall in 1996, because of the more humane care available in Canada, she lived with Barbara and her husband Richard Hinners. The Very Reverend James Parks Morton will conduct a private memorial service on Sunday, November 21. Evelyn Jack had dancing dark eyes and a smile of incandescent warmth. That warmth can never be forgotten or replaced.
