ARLIE JOAN MCGUIRE (nee WOODS) Peacefully, on November 15, 1999 in the Pine Falls General Hospital with Bill by her side, Arlie passed away at the age of 65 after a very courageous seven year battle with cancer. Arlie leaves to mourn, her beloved husband of 43 years, Bill (William K. McGuire) of Pine Falls; daughter Janet (and Paul) LaForest of Winnipeg, daughter Susan (and Gerry) Blixhavn of Killarney; sister Audrey (and Bob) Wallace of Fort St. John, B.C., sister Sharon Babish of Edmonton, Alberta; brother-in-law Mick (and Betty) McGuire of Spencerville, Ontario; "granddog" Riley; many extended family members and wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her father (George Elgin Woods) in September 1986; mother (Winnie Woods) in June 1999 and brother-in-law (Louis Babish) in 1998. Arlie was born in Killerney, Manitoba on April 21, 1934 and spent most of her school years there with the exception of three years in Winnipeg during the Second World War and two years in Selkirk where she finished High School. After graduation, Arlie moved to Winnipeg where she was employed by the Singer Sewing Machine Company during the day and attended Business School at night. Arlie began commuting to Pine Falls to teach Figure Skating on weekends in 1951, where she met Bill who sweet-talked her into staying permanently. She spent many years in the rink teaching and operating the Figure Skating Club on evenings and weekends while her daughters were growing up. Arlie was actively involved in many other community activities over the years including the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #56; R.C.L. Branch #64 Ladies Auxiliary; Pine Falls Golf Club and the Pine Falls 5-Pin Bowling League. Arlie was a life member of R.C.L. Branch #64 and was very proud of receiving the Meritorius Service Award in 1997. She had served in various positions on the Legion & Auxiliary Executives, both at the Branch and Zone levels over the past twenty years. Due to her illness, Arlie was forced to take early retirement from her career as Office Manager of the Pine Falls (Blue Water) Medical Clinic in 1996 following 32 years of service. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be celebrated on Thursday, November 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the Pine Falls United Church with Rev. Cindy Terry and Rev. Brian Routree officiating. Honourary Pallbearers will be all her fraternal sisters and brothers of the Royal Canadian Legion and Order of the Eastern Star who are present at the service. Interment will take place in Killarney at a later date. The family wishes to thank Dr. Pat Harris and staff of the Oncology/Chemotherapy Ward at Concordia Hospital, and Dr. Rudy Niemand and staff of the Pine Falls General Hospital, for the excellent treatment and compassion Arlie received under their care during her last few years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Foundation, 100 Olivia Street, Winnipeg, Man., R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice. TO THOSE I LOVE AND THOSE WHO LOVED ME When I am gone, release me, let me go... I have so many things to see and do, You mustnt tie yourself to me with tears; Be happy that we had so many years. I gave to you my love, you can only guess How much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now its time I travelled on alone. So grieve a while for me if grieve you must; Then let your grief be comforted by trust. Its only for a while that we must part So bless the memories within your heart. I wont be far away, for life goes on; So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you cant see me or touch me, Ill be near And if you listen with your heart, youll hear, All of my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, Ill greet you with a smile and say, "welcome home." Author unknown. Sobering Funeral Chapel and Crematorium in care of arrangements.
