HELEN ISABELLA HENRY It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Helen was born November 19, 1922 in Winnipeg. She was raised in the Weston area and attended Cecil Rhodes School. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Louis, in 1995. She was also predeceased by her sister Mary Johnstone and her parents William and Edith Macintosh. Helen and Lou were married in 1942 while Lou served in the Royal Canadian Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, they moved to Charleswood in 1948 where she resided until her death. For many years Helen and Lous life centered around the Charleswood Curling Club. Mom helped build the "new" club. Helen and Lou travelled from coast to coast to attend curling functions and many life long friendships were formed. Mom served as the President of the Charleswood Ladies Curling Club from 1977-78 and eventually become an Honorary life member. Up until her hospitalization in March, Helen loved to perform skits and sing songs with her friends from the Sing-a-Long Group at West Park Manor and other seniors homes in Winnipeg. Summers were spent at the beloved Beaver Creek Cottage on Lake Winnipeg. She was the Captain of Silver Maple Grove and her presence will be sorely missed. She met many cherished friends there, especially Cec and Peggy McIntosh and the Heuchert family. Left to mourn are Bill and Debbie and their daughters, Kristin and Carmen, Barry and Rita and their daughters, Louise, Christine (Tyler) McLennan and Dawn. As well, her spoiled great-grandchildren, Riley, Coral and Danielle. Mom is also survived by her sister Edith and husband Lloyd Bjornson and two brothers-in-law, Jim Henry and Tom Johnstone, her nieces and nephews will miss her as well. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with Rev. Michael Boulger officiating. Private family interment was held in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre following the service. The family sincerely wishes to thank the caring staff at Deer Lodge Centre 2West. They went beyond the call of duty and made our Mothers life bearable. As well a special thank you to all of Moms friends who visited or sent cards. Honorary pallbearers are Peggy McIntosh, Ruth Parker, Thelma Paterson, Pat Spiring, Joan Rettie, and Arlene Wilson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Canadian Diabetes Assoc., 102-310 Broadway, R3C 0S6 or Stroke Recovery Assoc., 1-333 Vaughan St., R3B 3J9 or the charity of your choice.
