PHYLLIS LOUISE AGGER Unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 17, 1999 Phyllis Louise Agger passed away at her residence at the age of 82 years. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents and her brother George. She was born in St. James on October 26, 1917. She attended Assiniboine and Linwood Schools. In October 1941, she joined the Canadian Womens Army Corps (C.W.A.C) and served in both Canada and England retiring in August 1946 with the rank of Captain. After the war she worked for 5 years at Hudsons Bay House after which she accepted a position of Civilian Personnel Officer of the R.C.A.F Station, Winnipeg. In 1955 she became a Clerk Programmer in the Air Navigator School Canadian Forces Base in Winnipeg, the first civilian and first female to hold that position, a position she was to hold for the next 21 years. On her retirement from C.F.B Air Navigation School, December 1977, she received a Commendation from the Chief of Air Staff General Carr who presented her with her "Wings" and was made an "Honorary Air Navigator" of the Air Navigation School Winnipeg, an honor she treasured. She was a charter member and past president of the C.W.A.C Association, a charter member and a past president of XANA Business and Professional Womens Club. When XANA disbanded in 1992 after 45 years, Phyllis transferred to the St.James B.P.W Club. She was a member and Past President of the C.C.W of the St.James Assiniboine Anglican Church and a Tuesday afternoon volunteer at Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home for many years. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Bermuda, Australia, New Zealand and England. She also enjoyed reading and needlepoint. She is survived by her sister-in-law Margaret; her nephew Garth and his wife Helen, their daughter Leslie; niece Susan of Las Vegas, her children Jason of Las Vegas, Kimberly and her husband of Fort Myers, Florida and her children Austin and Destiny. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 22 at 1:30 p.m. at St.James Anglican Church, 195 Collegiate St. Interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Parish Hall.
