Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD GLEN MAHOOD Suddenly, on November 17, 1999 at his residence, Ron Mahood, aged 69 years of Gmili, Man., passed away. Ron was predeceased by his father John; mother Jan and brothers, Johnnie and infant Harry. Ron was born on May 13, 1930 in Winnipeg, Man. and spent most of his youth living in Winnipeg as well as his first love, Kenora, Ontario, where he spent many, many years guiding on the Lake of the Woods. As a youth, Ron was an outstanding athlete having excelled in junior and senior hockey, semi pro baseball and senior football. Ron attended Kelvin High School and R.R.C.C. and was a true "Fort Rouger". Ron was a prominent member of many sport championship teams and was known as a fierce and relentless competitor. Rons passion for athletic excellence ultimately led him to coaching youth sports, most prominently, hockey. He was responsible for the development of many young players who went on to play hockey at the junior, college and professional level. Ron began his professional work career in 1950 with the Greater Winnipeg Water and Sanitary District. In 1959 Ron took his expertise of water engineering to the city of Thompson and was part of a great team that developed the water and sewer infrastructure of an exploding community also served as a volunteer fire fighter. In 1971 he began the final phase of his career with the Province of Manitobas Water Service Board and led another great team that developed the major water and sewer infrastructure throughout Southwest Manitoba and the Interlake. Rons professional profile and knowledge in the water industry was well known and for many years was a guest lecturer at the University of Manitobas Water and Waste School. Ron was never very far from the local hockey rink and always encouraged all the players to go to the next level, but took a special interest in those players who were told they were not good enough. Ron is survived by his loving wife Ollie (Olga) his son Harry; daughter-in-law Barbara and grandchildren, Brittany and Max. Also survived by his step-children, Charlene, Beverly, Lyle and grandchildren, Dustin and Jennifer. A memorial service will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk on Monday, November 22 at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Ray Sutton officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the minor hockey association of ones choice. Dad, thanks for the legacy, Rest in Peace.
