Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE WACHNIAK (nee BUDZAN) On Saturday, November 20, 1999 after a heartbreaking, but courageous 15 month battle with A.L.S. (Lou Gherigs), our wife, mother and nana is finally resting in peace. She will be lovingly missed by her husband John of 52 years and her children, Ron (Debra), Dutch (Doraine) and JoAnne (Ken) as well as her grandchildren, Ron Jr. (Heather), Ryan, Gindy, Kori, Jody, Trent, Jonathon and Kevin. Anne was born in Western Ukraine on January 30, 1924. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1936 and settled in Libau, Man. In 1941 Anne moved with her family from the farm in Libau to Winnipeg. John and Anne were married in 1947 and have always called Winnipeg their home. She was predeceased by her father Alexander; her mother Maria; her twin sister Olga and brother Walter. Anne loved and devoted her life to her family, always putting the concerns of others before her own. There was no holiday on the calendar that she did not call the family together for a hot meal and lots of goodies for her grandchildren. She was always proud of her well kept home and her beautiful flower gardens. John and Anne loved their holidays in Hawaii and their summer vacations at the cottage in Grand Marais. Her homemaking skills are legendary. Anne was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 141 Seniors Club and an active and Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 141 Ladies Auxiliary. She was very involved at the Branch and her dedication and willingness to help at the Legion over the last four decades will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 25 at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 1175 Main St. with Very Rev. H. Lakusta officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ron J. Wachniak, Trent Wachniak, Jonathon Barkley, Dan Wachniak, Gerry Shykoluk and Martin Brudy. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. M. Kristjanson of the McPhillips Medical Group and the nurses and staff (her guardian angels), on the 5th floor, Unit 5 at Seven Oaks Hospital for their excellent care and support.
