NEIL THOMAS PEDEN Unexpectedly on Monday, November 22, 1999 our dear father and grandfather passed away at the age of 78 years. Predeceased by his loving wife Betty in 1984; his parents; three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by three sisters and one brother. Left to mourn are his children, Bonnie (Terry) Borthistle, Sharon Murray, Debra (Brain) Coyston, Neil (Cathy) Peden, Wayne (Wendy) Peden, Robert Peden and his 12 grandchildren. When Neil was 17, at the outbreak of the Second World War, he rode the freights until he was old enough to join the forces. He worked on threshing gangs from Manitoba to Alberta. After the war he worked at the Stonewall Quarries for four years and then Stony Mountain Institution for 33 years, retiring in 1983. Dad was a life member of the Stony Mountain Royal Canadian Legion Branch #142, where he served on the executive for many years. Dad also enjoyed his bowling and cribbage in Stony Mountain and Stonewall. He was an avid gardener, planting vegetable and flower gardens every year. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, November 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Stony Mountain United Church. Judy Bouchard will officiate, with interment to follow in the Stonewall Cemetery followed by lunch in the Stonewall Legion. Pallbearers will be his five grandsons, Trevor Borthistle, Ryan and Barry Coyston, Neil and Michael Peden and neighbour Cal Stutski. Honourary pallbearers are Roy Hancock, John Hirst, George Lee, Jock McIvor, Bill McMurray, Paul Sarraillon, Frank Sutherland, Leon Vandekerckhove and Len Wheeler. Dad was a proud man and showed this towards his family. He will be sadly missed by his children and grandchildren. We love you Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, Manitoba. MacKenzie Funeral Home Stonewall in care of the arrangements.
