MARGARET (BUNNY) CRAIK
Date of Passing: Nov 24, 1999
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET (BUNNY) CRAIK (nee PARKER) Peacefully, at 101 years of age on Wednesday, November 24, 1999 at the River East Personal Care Home, surrounded by love. The spirit of Margaret lives on through her daughters, Jean (George) Simundson, Anne (Bob) Duncan; grandchildren, Chuck, Bill, Beth (Grant Jones) and Kathy Simundson, Heather (Darren) Dufour, Janice (Adrian) Labarre, Alison (Pat) Loschiavo; and great-grandchildren, Amberly, Gena, Brendan and Vincent. Margaret was born on April 29, 1898 in Jefferson County, Nebraska. Margaret, fondly remembered as Bunny, was the youngest of the seven children of George and Sarah Parker. When Margaret was five, the Parker family moved to the Dauphin area as homesteaders. She began a teaching career at the age of 16 and taught in the Rossburn area and later in Winnipeg. In 1932, she married Charles Craik and they resided in East Kildonan. Their marriage was a loving partnership for 30 happy years. Following Charles death in 1962, Margaret and her sister Anne lived together and were constant and loyal companions until Annes death in May, 1998. With a wonderful spirit of adventure, they travelled across the continent, often on Circle Tours with their sister Pearl Campbell. Their last excursion was to visit the polar bears in Churchill in 1989. Margaret and Anne enjoyed ten years living at Lions Place where they were active and developed some very special friendships. An important part of Margarets life was spending time and maintaining contact with her family, including numerous nieces and nephews. She loved to learn and had much pleasure from the seniors program at the University of Winnipeg. Margaret was a longtime member of Knox United Church, The Business and Professional Womens Club, and the Winnipeg Retired Teachers Association. In 1993, Margaret moved to the River East Personal Care Home where she enjoyed many activities and outings of the recreation program, the company of the many volunteers, and especially the care of the staff. Her time at River East afforded her the opportunity to catch up on her reading. Over the years, she read many of the large print books in the Winnipeg Public Libraries. Margaret met life head on, living everyday to the fullest, and enjoyed an exceptional quality of life. She kept fit, both physically and mentally. She had the ability to make the very best of what life offered; she was a model to us all. We are grateful for the blessing she has been. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Charles; her parents, George and Sarah; brothers, William, Robert and Fred; and sisters, Emma, Anne and, on October 31, 1999, Pearl. A service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the River East Personal Care Home, 1375 Molson St. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers at the River East Personal Care Home for their love and care, especially during the last week. It was wonderful to see the love that Margaret received from you. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Recreation Department of the River East Personal Care Home, 1375 Molson St., Winnipeg MB R2K 4K8. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
