SHIRLEY SMITH In her 69th year, Shirley passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 1999. A beloved and devoted wife, she lost Bruce, her husband of 43 years, merely three months ago after his valiant battle with cancer. A loving mother, she is survived by Christopher and his wife Julie of Syracuse, David and his wife Sandra of Unionville, and Geoffrey and his wife Aline of Thornhill. A devoted grandmother, she is survived by her five grandsons, Andrew, Garnett, Trevor, Taylor and Oliver. She is also survived by her mother Martha Sackrison, who is in her 95th year and currently resides in Winnipeg, and her brother Brian and his wife Marion of Mississauga. Shirleys love of family and passion for music clearly defined much of what she achieved in life. A close-knit family, we will all remember and cherish the wonderful traditions she established, particularly around the Christmas season, of celebration, togetherness and a strong sense of family. An accomplished musician, she devoted much of her spare time to music and musical theatre outside of her family responsibilities. The family is receiving friends at the Thompson Funeral Home, 29 Victoria St., Aurora, 905-727-5421, on Sunday, November 28 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Advent Lutheran Church, 2800 Don Mills Rd., Willowdale, on Monday, November 29 at 11:30 a.m., phone 416-493-1435. Donations to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
