Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHORVALDUR PETERSON Thorvaldur Peterson passed away on Monday, November 22, 1999 at the age of 92 years. He was residing at the Brookhaven Care Centre in Kelowna, B.C. and was formerly at the Okanagan Chateau. Thorvaldur (Valdi) was born in Framnes, now Arborg, Man. He attended Vestri and Ardal schools and took a three year diploma course at the University of Manitoba. He took a position with International Harvestor, truck division, Winnipeg in 1929 and worked there for 41 years. While employed at International Harvestor he was fondly known as "Pete". During the Second World War Valdi joined home defense in 1939 and active service in 1942. He earned commission as Officer and was posted with Atlantic Command until the end of the war. He was awarded Canada and British Empire 1939 to 1945 war medals. He married Mabel Casper of Emerson, Man. in 1934. Mabel and Valdi lived in Winnipeg until their retirement in 1970. They moved to Kelowna, B.C. at that time. Mabel died in 1983. Thorvaldur was also predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Thora Peterson; brother Eymunder Danielson and sisters, Kristine Peterson, Bergthora Goodman and Agnes Shields. He is survived by his brother Leslie Peterson of Kamloops, B.C. and several nieces and nephews. A Remembrance service was held on November 25 at Days Garden Chapel, 1134 Bernard Ave., Kelowna, B.C. with Rev. James Buenting officiating. Cremation has taken place and there will be an interment at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kelowna. If friends so desire, donations can be made to a charity of their choice in his remembrance.
