VICTOR LAWRENCE ROSENFIELD, MD On Sunday, November 21, 1999, Dr. Victor Lawrence Rosenfield passed away at the Victoria General Hospital. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elsa; his children, Mark (Laurie), Barbara Kives (Raymond), Stephen (Corky), Lorne (Gina) 14 grandchildren; and his sister Lillian Goff in Los Angeles and his brother Morley (Verne) in Phoenix. Dr. Victor attended the University of Manitoba and received his medical degree in 1935. He did his post graduate studies in England and thereafter served as a captain in the Canadian Army during the war. Upon his return to Winnipeg he re-established his medical practice. He was on the board of several Winnipeg hospitals. It was at the old Victoria Hospital that his leadership abilities flourished. He was instrumental in raising the hospital from its humble beginnings to its present status and was the driving force in the development and construction of the new Victoria General Hospital. There he served as Director of Medical Services for 25 years. His first wife, Lynn, who predeceased him in 1985, was most supportive and was actively involved in the hospitals auxiliary services. For distinguished service in the field of medicine, an honorary membership was awarded to him in the International College of Surgeons. A plaque was presented to him in Jerusalem by the president of Israel. Dr. Rosenfield was charismatic; his dedication and commitment to the excellence of the Victoria General Hospital stimulated medical and nursing staff alike. He will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to have known him. The family wishes to express special thanks to Drs. S. Sinha, M. Shnider, I. Maxwell and all the staff at the Victoria Hospital for their caring attention. The compassion and sensitivity of the 5th floor nursing staff were most appreciated. Donations in memory of Dr. Victor Rosenfield may be made to the Research Foundation of the Victoria General Hospital.
