Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM ALFRED STUNDEN VE4BJ/VE3WMX Silent Key Bill died on Wednesday, November 24, 1999 with his wife and daughter at his side. He endured the difficulties of his illness with dignity, courage and above all humour. He has been an inspiration to all who were blessed to share his life. He was predeceased by his father William Gerald 1965; mother Edith Elizabeth 1993. He leaves to mourn his wife Vivian of 50 years; son William (Siobhan), Aurora, Ont.; daughter Leslie Kerschtien (Richard), Minnedosa; grandsons, Shane, Victoria, B.C., Joshua and Dustin, Minnedosa; brother Ron (Irene), Richmond, B.C. and many extended family members. Bill was born January 28, 1921 in Calgary, Alta. During the Second World War he served in the Army then as a radio technician with the Department of Transport in Snag and Whitehorse, YK, transferring to Winnipeg in 1948. Bill had many hobbies, skills and talents which are evident in the development of his summer cottage at Clearwater Bay, Ont. where he enjoyed summers with his family. Amateur Radio has been his main interest since he was licensed in 1937. He mentored many who shared that interest including his wife VE4YL; son VE3WMX; daughter VE4YJ and grandson VE4TSZ. He had special memories of the Winnipeg DX Club Days. The camaraderie of the Lake of the Woods Radio Club and Lake of the Woods Repeater Association were also treasured times. One of his most shining accomplishments was his two-way communications contact with 342 countries (DXCC). He was a Life Member of the Manitoba Amateur Radio Museum and the Winnipeg Canadian Air Museum and founding president of the Department of Communications Retired Persons Club. He supported and belonged to the Winnipeg Amateur Radio Club, Manitoba Repeater Society and the Lake of the Woods Amateur Radio Emergency Services. Parham, Dr. J.D. McDowell, the kind and caring staff of the Grace Hospital Oncology Department, staff on 3 North and support staff involved in his care. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations may be made in his memory to the Cancer Research Foundation, 100 Olivia Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 9Z9, or charity of your choice.
