Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILEN GEORGE MEDWAY After a short illness, Milen George Medway passed away on November 23, 1999, age 80, at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Dad was born on January 15, 1919 at his familys residence at Pacific Junction, Charleswood Railroad Station. In his life, Milen had many interesting experiences. Following his childhood in Charleswood, he worked in the garment industry in New York City. He worked in a gold mine in northern Manitoba, an aircraft factory in Fort Erie. He worked as a stevedore in Prince George, then on to Alaska to help build the Alaska Highway. Finally he returned to Winnipeg and married Elsie on October 7, 1944. From then on he was self-employed for 37 years and retired in 1978 at the age of 59. Dad enjoyed many years of retirement, loved the outdoors and spent many happy days, hunting and fishing with friends. He also enjoyed travelling and the 21 years he and Elsie spent in Panama City Beach, Florida. Out of all these experiences, there was none more important than his family, especially in recent years with his great-grandchildren. Dad is survived by his wife Elsie of 55 years, daughter Eleanor and son George and his wife Claudette; grandchildren, Chris, Andrea and her husband Chuck Guertin, Laura, Karen and her husband Cam Watt; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jordan, Kay-Lynn, Kimberley and Alexander. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Mary and George Medweduk; sister Anna and her husband Peter Mitchell, brothers, William, Nicholas and John and his wife Agnes. Dad was a member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Cathedral. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with the Very Rev. John Melnyk officiating. Private interment will follow at a later time at the Elmwood Cemetery. The family would like to thank the numerous doctors, nurses and staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, the staff of the Winnipeg Paramedics and especially his family doctor and friend, Dr. Wilfred Albi for their care and compassion. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Milens memory to the St. Boniface Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, R2H 2A6 or to a charity of ones choice.
