Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM HORST MARTENSMEIER December 26, 1933 - November 21, 1999 Born in Munster Lager, Germany he was preceded in death by his parents, Heinrich and Ella, and his sister Lisa. He grew up in a small village called Mariensee near Hanover. For a short time before immigrating to Canada in 1955, he worked in a coal mine. After his arrival in Canada, Bill worked at Canada Packers, Silverwood Dairies and Community Chevy., until choosing a career as an Operating Engineer for Manitoba Hydro at the Selkirk Generating Station where he worked from 1964 until his retirement in 1993. Bill was a principled man with high standards and a rigid moral code by which he lived his life and he expected no less of others. He was an honest, sincere and kind man who earned the respect of his co-workers and friends "you always knew where you stood with Bill." He will be sadly missed by his many friends, his fishing buddies, Skat partners, members of the German Club, and friends from B.C. He leaves to mourn his passing his nieces, Adriana Reichenbach and family, Inez and Astrid Kluschak, cousins, school friends, and Irmgard Hofmann and family in Germany. Bill loved to travel and after spending the last two years of his life in and out of hospital, he is now free to embark on his most exciting journey. We bid you farewell and remember you with love. His cremated remains will be returned to Germany for burial with his family. Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 29 at 4:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., with lunch following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to your charity of choice or the German Club. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
