Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN WILLIAM ALLAN OLMSTEAD, UEL It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Bill Olmstead on November 24, 1999 at the age of 70. Bill will be sadly missed by Alice, his loving wife of 47 years; daughters, Sharon Olmstead (William Brown) of Hockley, Ontario, and Sandra Britten (Tom) of Regina; son Glen (Susanne) of Calgary; granddaughters, Kelsie and Marina Britten; sister Pat Maclean (Stewart) and by his nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Montreal and moved to Winnipeg with his parents at an early age. He was employed by Pioneer Electric for ten years, and joined Bay Bronze in 1962, becoming co-owner of the company in 1974. After retiring from Bay Bronze in 1989, Bill continued to enjoy attending company social functions, and will be sadly missed by his friends and associates. Bill enjoyed his many years of retirement. Bills passion for history and interest in his heritage led to his involvement in many genealogical organizations. Bill was most proud of his involvement with the Olmstead Family Association. He served on the Executive Committee, including two terms as President, and was Editor of the OFA Newsletter for many years. He previously served as President of the United Empire Loyalists of Canada (UEL), Vice-president of Manitoba Genealogical Society (MGS) and President of MGS Winnipeg Branch. He was a long standing member of the Fort Garry United Church. Bill was generous with his time and a volunteer in many capacities. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. Many were enriched by his generosity, youthful enthusiasm, and hardworking intelligence. The cottage that Bill and Alice built at Lakeshore Heights on Lake Winnipeg was a source of great enjoyment for Bill and his family for over 30 years. Bills family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the wonderful help and support of friends and neighbours during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Bills life at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 29 at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road. There will be a gathering of family and friends immediately following the service. If desired, a donation may be made in Bills memory to the charity of ones choice. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
