Verlie was born on June 8, 1927, the youngest child of John and Eliza Jane (David) Briscoe of Belmont, Manitoba. She is survived by Jack, her husband of 54 years, seven children, Judy (Barry) Danard, Robert (Iris) Dunlop, Betty (Robert) Cappelle, Lonn (Darlene) Dunlop, Debra (Dennis) Caners, Lori (Grant) Fisher and Beverly (Dave) Dunlop; 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Also mourning her passed in her only surviving sister, Beryl Vigneux, and a sister-in-law Lillian Briscoe, as well as many nieces and nephews. In her youth Verlie attended the Belmont Consolidated School and excelled in sports and music, sang in the Belmont United Church Choir, and played in the Belmont Band. On July 6, 1945 she married Jack Dunlop who was at the time in the RCAF. They had their first home in Portage la Prairie until the end of the war them moved to farm sites near Dunrea, Manitoba where they lived until she entered the personal care home in 1992. Verlie was a very dedicated mother and farm wife. She was well known for her lovely meals and hospitality at the farm as well as her great sense of humour. She also loved fastball, curling and supporting her children in their many activities. She took care of her widowed mother most of her life. Later in life she sang in the Barber Shop Belles in Brandon and was a life member in the Royal Purple in Killarney. After 28 years of farming and married life, Verlie and Jack enjoyed travelling to many countries. Unfortunately, at age 59 Grandma was robbed of many memories and opportunities by her early diagnosis of Alzheimer Disease. On March 20, 1992, before she could celebrate her 65th birthday, Verlie made Bayside Personal Care Home her last home. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care she has received there over the years. Mom will always be in our hearts and never be forgotten. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Wheatland Chapel, Killarney, Man. on Thursday, December 2, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bayside Personal Care Home, Killarney Boissevain Funeral Homes in care of of the arrangements.
