Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH ELEANOR BARKWELL (nee BERG) It is with deep sorrow that after a long battle with emphysema, Ruth Barkwell died suddenly Monday, November 29, 1999 at her residence in Winnipeg. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her husband George; son George (Linda ) daughter Gaye (Wayne) granddaughters, Kara (Chris), Lisa, Marla; and great-grandson Luke. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Sophia Berg; and her brothers, Arthur and Ken from Inwood, MB. Left to mourn are her brothers, Peter Berg (Millie), Alex Berg; and her sisters, Edith McDowell and Elsie Prendergast; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Ruth was born and raised in Inwood, MB. She moved to Winnipeg in her late teens, where she met her future husband, George. Together, Ruth and George faced many adventures for 57 years. Two of those adventures were raising George Jr. and Gaye. Ruth loved to do all sorts of activities for her children including reading, sewing, and cooking great meals. A wonderful family tradition became summers at Victoria Beach with her children, family and friends. Meeting the ladies on the Crescent to play bridge was another favourite pastime and those memories continued to brighten her days. In turn, she would brighten the days of those around her with her comedic flair of telling a good joke. Visiting with families and friends was very important to Ruth and they made annual trips across Canada and the U.S. with many stops along the way. Ruth was always very proud when they arrived where they had planned because she was the navigator on the road. These annual visits were something to be counted on for over 40 years. Ruths most recent pleasure was her great grandson Luke. Lukes smile made Ruth feel really special. One thing Mom will always be remembered for is her zest for life. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 3 at 10:00 a.m. in the P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. Donations in Ruths memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8, or a charity of ones choice. P. COUTU & CO.
