Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER ZYGMUND RUBAN 1920 - 1999 Peacefully on Monday, November 29, 1999, our beloved husband, father and dziadzia passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. He leaves to cherish his memory wife Joan; five children, Julie (Brent), Wally (Lydna), John (Christine), Tony (Francoise), Karl (Sheila) 14 grandchildren and extended family in Poland. Walter was born in Trzebina, Poland on May 9, 1920 and grew up in a pre-Second World War era, survived forced labour camps and was liberated by Allied forces in 1945. He arrived in Canada to work as a lumberjack and later completed 36 years of employment with the CNR. He was a lifetime member of Bractwo Sw. Ducha as an active volunteer and executive. In his retirement years, Walter loved time with his grandchildren, gardening, Hockey Night in Canada, and helping whenever anyone needed a handyman. The family wishes to thank Dr. Daeninck and his caregivers of the Oncology/Palliative Care wards for their special efforts and attention over the past months. Prayers and viewing will be held on Friday, December 3 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 4 at the Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 920 Cottonwood Rd. (at Autumnwood Drive). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walters memory to either the Canadian Cancer Society or Palliative Care - St. Boniface Hospital.
