Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryE. EVELYN TURNER On Wednesday, December 1, 1999, E. Evelyn Turner, Winnipeg, MB, died at the age of 92 years. The funeral service will be held in Knox United Church, Abernethy, SK on Saturday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Gladys Pavo officiating. Interment in Abernethy Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in the Fred Douglas Heritage House, Winnipeg, MB at a later date. Evelyn was born on March 18, 1907 in the Abernethy District to Austin Edwin and Mary Ann Turner, the second of seven children. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents; infant brother Allan; brother Gordon in the Second World War, sisters, Gladys Dinnin and Grace Bittner; brothers-in-law, Jeff Bittner, Jack Bittner, Howard Dinnin, Ed Barnsley and Victor Kirk; great-nieces, Joan Caughlin and Sherry Bittner and great-nephew, Ken Caughlin; and is survived by two sisters, Ruby Barnsley, Esterhazy, SK and Lilian Kirk, Balcarres, SK; nephews, Ron Bittner, Bryan (Carol) Bittner, all of Abernethy; Garry (Jeanette) Kirk, Winnipeg; Tom Kirk, Saskatoon, SK, nieces, Lynn (Kel) Caughlin, Esterhazy; Sherry (Bert) VandeGraaf, Ajax, ON; Pat (Dennis) Buckton, Regina, SK. Evelyn graduated from school at Abernethy and then trained for a nurse at Winnipeg General Hospital. Upon graduation in 1930, she began working at the hospital where she worked until her retirement in August, 1975. Evelyn was very dedicated to the nursing profession and the Health Sciences Centre. Evelyn was well versed on many subjects, had great knowledge, wit and humour and enjoyed such a positive outlook on life. She treasured phone calls and visits from her many friends and relatives. Thank you to all these people for keeping in touch with Evelyn so faithfully. Fred Douglas Heritage House became Evelyns new home in September, 1999 and she especially enjoyed her time there with the wonderful staff and new friends. Evelyn will be sadly missed by nephew Garry Kirk, his wife Jeanette and their children, Sharon Kirk (Bill Hamlin), Heather (Dale) Bridges, Dale Kirk and grandchildren, Lucas Hamlin and Tayler Bridges. They have been a special part of her life for the past several years assisting her with various errands and care. Many thanks to the following for their care and concern for Evelyn: home care staff, Louise Hobson and staff at Fred Douglas Heritage House, Dr. J. Johnston and staff, Dr. Haydey and staff, Health Sciences Centre GA4 doctors and staff and Knox United Church staff in Winnipeg and Linda Peterson and Laurie Rafter for their special services.
