HEATHER DARLENE WATANABE (nee HAMEL) Surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, December 1, 1999 at Riverview Health Centre, Heather passed away at 56 years of age. She leaves to celebrate her life and forever cherish her memory her husband of 36 years, Ken; son Dean and wife Tracey; daughter Kelsey-Dawn and her precious granddaughters, Holly and Kassie. Heather was predeceased by her father Rene Hamel in 1983 and her grandparents, Thomas and Violet Sweet. She will be lovingly remembered by her Mother Muriel Hamel; sisters, Laraine Hamel-Vermette (Marcel), Margaret Ross (James) brothers, Wayne Hamel (Darlene) and Brent Hamel (Betty) cousin Carole Stimpson-Brown (Patrick) as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and special friends. Heather was born June 22, 1943 and lived her entire life in St. Vital. She pursued various careers before discovering her love, passion and talent for art. She met and became partners with her mentor, Earl Stevens. Their store, Fine Art Framing and Gallery was her pride and joy and a constant source of happiness for her. Heather will be remembered for her involvement in the community. For many years she was a Scout, Brownie and Moonbeam leader, Junior Winter Games organizer, baseball coach, school volunteer as well as an avid hockey, ringette and soccer Mom. Through her participation, she formed many long-lasting friendships. The family would like to thank Dr. Navaratnam, Dr. Vijay, Jane Olson, RN and all the wonderful staff at the Health Sciences Centre. Heather was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who has left a lasting and treasured legacy. Her love of family, generous spirit, enthusiasm for life and wonderful sense of humour has touched all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Heathers memory may be made to the ALS Society or the Oncology Department at H.S.C. The prayer vigil will take place on Friday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King Church, 847 St. Marys Rd. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 4 at 12:00 noon at Christ the King. Father Ron Pasinato will preside. Interment and reception to follow at Green Acres Memorial Garden 222-3241.
