ROSEMARY ANNE SCHELLENBERG Suddenly at St. Boniface Hospital on November 29, 1999, Rosemary Schellenberg of Portage la Prairie passed away. Born in Montreal on December 1, 1937, she was the second child of George and Mabel Gagnon. Left to cherish fond memories of her are her loving husband Wilfred; her brother Laurence (Marjorie) Gagnon; nephews, David (Susan), Eric (Karen) and their children, Andrew and Ericka, of Kingston, Ont.; her special niece Allison of North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Richard (Irene), Herb (Shirley), Irwin (Louise) and their families; sister-in-law Carolyn; cousins and friends. She grew up in Westmount, P.Q. and trained as a Registered Nurse at the Montreal General Hospital. She worked as a nurse in Montreal, Halifax, Trail, B.C., and Winnipeg. The highlight of her career occurred in 1967 - 69 when she served as a CUSO volunteer in Kingston, Jamaica as a nursing instructor. She later earned a diploma in Public Health Nursing from Dalhousie University. She and Wilfred, a fellow CUSO volunteer, met in Jamaica. They were married in Winnipeg in 1973 and in 1974 they moved to Portage. She became the nurse-receptionist in his new dental practice, a job she held until her untimely death. Her wise counsel on health matters was often sought by others. As a dedicated nurse, help was freely and caringly given. She took part in many community organizations: nursing chapters in Trail and Portage, Lioness Club, Child and Family Services of Central Manitoba (Board President for ten years), church vestry and choir. Her presence in a group always made a difference. She enjoyed her friends, her home, her cats, reading and travel - especially wintertime trips to the warm south. Cremation has taken place, as she wished. A memorial service will be held at St. Marys Anglican Church, 36 2nd St. S.W., Portage la Prairie, on Saturday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Norman Collier officiating. Omega Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
