KENNETH NYALL ROSS After a courageous battle for life, Nyall finally went to be with his God. He passed away early on Friday, December 3, 1999 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg. He, our first son, was born on June 26, 1947. Nyall is survived by his 101 year old grandfather of Brandon, Mr. E. E. Steeden; his loving mother Irene; his fond father Ken; his only brother Duncan (Myrna) of Winnipeg; and he was uncle to Kelly and Cameron whom he dearly loved. He is survived by Uncle Clifford (Kip) of Steeden of Portage; Uncle Jim and Aunt Gwen Steeden of Brandon; Aunt Ruth and Uncle Harold Ross of Stonewall, Aunt Carolyn Bruce of Calgary and Uncle Peter Smook and family from Alberta. He leaves in passing, several cousins, particularly Dianne of Enderby, B.C., and Beverley of Kelowna, B.C. Nyall grew up in Portage and graduated from PCI. Nyall was awarded the title of Associate in Music Manitoba from the University of Manitoba and had the right to use the letters A.M.M thereof dated October 24, 1968. He received his Bachelor of Music from Brandon University in October, 1969. He became an accomplished pianist, particularly as an accompanist, even to the extent that he was acknowledged by an adjudicator as being the best accompanist that had been his privilege to hear. While at Brandon University, Nyall took part in many stage plays - one in which he particularly shone was "Whos afraid of Virginia Wolfe." Nyall travelled to the West Coast attending both Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia. Nyall had worked at the MDC, he had volunteered to work at the Red Cross in Winnipeg and also at the Winnipeg Library. He enjoyed his family, his friends and his suite. Nyall particularly, during his last year or two, loved to sit in the backyard, look at the flowers and listen to the birds - he loved being outdoors. Another thing he loved to do was to have dinner at the Herman Prior Centre, Portage la Prairie. He said they made the best said, biscuits and gravy. Many of the members took time to talk to him and smoke with him in the area allotted. A service in celebration of Nyalls life will be held at St. Marys la Prairie, 36 2nd Street SW, Portage la Prairie on Tuesday December 7, at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Norman Collier officiating. Interment will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Portage la Prairie. It is the wish of the family that expressions of sympathy be given as donations made in Nyalls memory to the Herman Prior Centre in aid of installation of the new doors, 40 Royal Road N., Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 1T9 or to the Schizophrenia Society Inc., Manitoba, #3, 1000 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba or to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave., E., Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 0K8 Thanks for the years you gave us; For the good times that we shared. We only pray that when you left us You knew how much we cared." A tree will be planted in memory of Nyall at Evergreen Memorial Gardens by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are entrusted with the arrangements.
