BETTY SCHWARTZ Suddenly and peacefully on Monday, December 6, at St. Boniface Hospital, Betty Schwartz of Cambridge Towers passed away in her 87th year. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Sidney and wife Sharon; daughter Lorraine Halparin; and her son-in-law Aubrey Caplan and his wife Philipa; her sister-in-law Sukie Pitch; her grandchildren, Karen and Dan Sherbo, Stuart Schwartz and Laila Sharpe, Aimee and Melvin Horbul, Michael Halparin, Steven Caplan and Naava Naslavsky, Arnie Caplan and Janice Caplan; and her great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Ryan Sherbo, Maya Schwartz, Kyla and Jeremy Horbul and Mika Caplan. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Abraham H. Schwartz, her loving daughter Shirley Caplan, her dear son-in-law Gerry Halparin, her brother William S. (Bill) Pitch, her sister Molly Pitch and her parents Shlomo and Chava Pitch. Betty was born in Russia and came to Canada with her family. Her studies were interrupted when her help was needed in the family business in Libau and later Beausejour. After marrying, she and her husband Abe were partners in retail businesses in Holland and Selkirk, Manitoba. Following his untimely death, she managed their Winnipeg business, Manpower Services, until it was sold, after which she retired. Graveside services, in accordance with her wishes, will be held at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on Wednesday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at 128 Grenfell Blvd. for family and friends. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations may be made to your charity of choice. Betty spent her life in service to her family and others and deliberately chose never to be a burden to either. She left us observing those wishes.
