HELEN ALEXANDRA TEDFORD With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Helen Alexandra Tedford on December 6, 1999. Helen was born in Brandon, January 9, 1915. She attended elementary school in Brandon, then moved to Winnipeg in 1929 with her family and completed high school at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. In 1940 she married Douglas A. Tedford. The family moved to Virden in 1956 but resided there only six months when Doug passed away suddenly and Helen and her small family returned to Winnipeg. In 1958 she began work as Secretary to the Registrar of the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association and worked with the Association until she retired in January 1980. Helen lived a very active life. In 1937 she was elected the first President of the Junior Auxiliary, Valour Road Memorial Branch #101 of the Royal Canadian Legion. She was a Past President and life member of Ladies Auxiliary, Valour Road Memorial Branch, Past Secretary and Past Chairman of Provincial Council, Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion. She served as a Secretary and was a Past President of the Druggists Womens Auxiliary. Helen was an honorary member of the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association and a Past Honorary President of Student Council, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Manitoba. Helen was also a member of St. James United Church. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas, her parents Olive and Alex Cairns and a brother, J. Alex Cairns. Surviving are daughter Kathleen Jean Geekie of Strathclair, sons Douglas Alexander and wife Sandra of Prince George, B.C and William Robert and wife Glenys of Winnipeg, and her four grandchildren Nancy Geekie, Keith and Alanna Tedford and Jenn Tedford. Also surviving, brother S. Kenneth Cairns and wife Betty of Victoria BC, sister Shirley and husband Bev Small of Langley, BC and sister-in-law Myrtle Cairns of Leesburg, Fl., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. After retiring, Mother was fortunate to spend eleven winters in Harlingen, Texas where she made many friends and enjoyed a very fulfilling lifestyle. Her summers were always spent at the family cottage at Clear Lake, where she had been going to since she was a child. Her door was always open and company was always welcome, as long as they played cards. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks for the care and compassion given to Mom by the staff at Morley House in Shoal Lake. A funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Thursday, December 9, 1999 at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Garden of Everlasting Life. A reception will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. Pallbearers will be Peter Paintin, Jonathon Paitin and Brian Head. Honorary pallbearers are Ella Strain, Marie McGrath, Thelma Sherwood, Marree Bert and Peggy Iverach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shoal Lake - Strathclair and District Hospital Foundation Inc., Box 490 Shoal Lake, Manitoba, R0J 1Z0. Mom we will miss you. Your kindness and generosity over the years have touched our hearts and the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known you.
