KAREN ELAINE BREMAUD (nee RIACH) Karen passed away peacefully on December 7, 1999 at Riverview Health Centre with her loving family by her side. There was nothing that could sway this ladys joy of life. After successfully battling cancer 14 years ago it recurred in 1997, at the same time as the family had to deal with the flooding of their home. In spite of these adversities she was determined to enjoy every day to the fullest. Born in 1952, Karen grew up in Ridgeville, Manitoba. After graduating from Licensed Practical Nursing at St. Boniface Hospital in 1972, Karen worked for several yeras at Winkler Hospital. In June of 1976, she married Art Bremaud and moved to Ste. Agathe, Manitoba where she resided until her illness required her to be hospitalized. During her years in Ste. Agathe, Karen worked at Ste. Adolphe Nursing Home. Her main concern was always the welfare of her patients, and her caring manner led many of her co-workers to become life-long friends. In her days at Ste. Agathe, Karen was active in curling and slo-pitch baseball. Her other summer interests included camping and country music festivals. She was always active in the community, and she enjoyed everything about life. Her family was the centre of Karens life, whether immediate, extended, or adopted. Left to celebrate Karens life is Art, her husband of 23 years; her son Brett and wife Vivian and her son Romeo; and her daughter Kara and special friend Scott. Also remembering Karens life with fondness is her father Lorne Riach; brothers, Brian (Sharon) Riach, Duaine (Lynne) Riach; sisters, Gayle (Rod) Campbell, Marilyn (Claude) Lemay; her parents-in-law, Julien and Marie-Ange; brothers-in-law, Ron (Donna), Maurice (Ursula), Wilfrid (Diane), Normand (Rachel), Ben (Shirley), Florent (Joanne), Germain (Doris) sister-in-law Julienne (Paul) Boso. Also numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Karen is predeceased by her mother Lillie in 1974. The family wishes to thank Dr. Hayward, Dr. Maxwell, Astrid, the late Helen Hudson, and the staff of the Victoria Hospital Oncology Department. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff of Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and compassion to Karen and her family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Ste. Agathe Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, December 11 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make a donation in Karens memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unti 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4G2 or Riverview Health Centre Foundation - Palliative Care Unit, One Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 2P4.
