Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALFRED GOSLING Alfred Gosling passed away peacefully December 6, 1999 at Deer Lodge Centre, at the age of 93 years. Alfred was predeceased by his loving wife Catherine (Katie) Mary, nee Philip, April 15, 1995. He is survived by his son Philip (Dale), grandchildren Glen and Kim of Winnipeg, his daughter Mary Helen Szklaruk (Alex), grandchildren Mary, Catherine, Margaret, Peter and Andrew of Gypsumville, sister-in-law, Jessie Philip of Tilston, Manitoba and numerous nephews and nieces. Alfred was born April 6, 1906 in Lincolnshire, England. He came to Canada as a young lad. He worked on farms and for Bell Telephone in Ontario until WW 11. He served overseas. Upon arriving back in Canada he met his future wife in Toronto. After the war, they went west to Winnipeg to be close to her family in Tilston Pierson; they wed August 17, 1945. Alfred worked at several jobs, including working at Fort Osborne Barracks and prospecting in Northern Manitoba. He loved to talk about his wilderness experiences, his time spent in Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Ontario. Until his retirement, he worked for the Federal Department of Public Works for fourteen years. He was proud of his garden, enjoyed playing crib and was an excellent bowler. He enjoyed the outdoors and always helped anyone in need. In later years he took great pride in the achievements of his grandchildren. His greatest love was going to the "farm up north" and to Philips "cabin" at Arnes. Prior to staying at Deer Lodge Centre, Alfred resided at the Lions Manor. Cremation has taken place. At a later date a graveside service will take place at Pierson, Manitoba where his wife is laid to rest. "May he rest in peace and find comfort with Katie in heaven" In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Lions Manor, Deer Lodge Centre, St. Boniface Hospital or Lakeshore General Hospital at Ashern.
