RAYMOND JOHN KUCHTA (Rejmunt Jan) On December 8, 1999, Raymond John Kuchta, aged 74, passed away suddenly, with his family at his side at the Concordia Hospital. Dad was born in Dabrowa, Poland on January 27, 1925 and came to Canada as a child. Dad grew up in the North End of Winnipeg on Schultz Ave. where he acquired his love of music at an early age. He played double bass in the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra for one quarter of a century. Dad was a long time employee of Motor Coach Industries. After half a century he finally retired in 1993 in order to pursue his favourite hobby of metal detecting. At all hours of the day he could be seen on Grand Beach carefully sifting for treasures. His membership in the Bronx Park Metal Detectors Club brought him great joy. Dad was an avid reader who could never have enough books. He helped others before himself. Although in declining health for quite some time he still managed to volunteer as the Goodwill Stores unofficial "librarian". He was predeceased by his mother and father, Katarzyna and Jan Paul; and his wife Denyse. He leaves to mourn daughters, Janet and Jenny; daughter-in-law Brenda and grandchildren, Natasha, Christiaan and Jessica; and son Jeff. He also leaves his brother Theodore (Cheryl), sisters, Isabel Mylitt, Evelyn (Emil Gillies) and Elsie (Richard Salter), nieces, nephews and special family friend Barrie Cahill and family. Cremation has taken place. Private family service will be held Monday, December 13 at 11:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton Ave. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be sent to the Salvation Army. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements; 586-8044.
