Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE DONALD McKAY Don McKay was born in Winnipeg on June 20, 1915 and died in North Vancouver on November 22, 1999. He will be lovingly remembered by Margaret, his devoted wife of 55 years; son Doug McKay, daughter Jaqueline Chmilar (Henry) sisters, Betty McNish of North Vancouver, Nancy Perrin of Winnipeg and cousins, nieces and nephews. He was sadly predeceased by his sister Ellie Emmett, nephew Bruce McNish and his parents, Brice and Nan McKay, who lived on Belvidere St. in Deer Lodge for over 30 years. Don and his sisters attended Linwood School. Don loved life and his warm and witty personality won many long-lasting friendships. He also loved music and during the 30s was drummer with his 5 piece band "The Commodores", playing for dances in the city and at the old Lido Plage roadhouse. He had a life-long interest in cars, particularly, Studebakers and enjoyed working on engines. Don was a Flying Officer Pilot Instructor in World War II, 17 year Manager of Royal Canadian Legion #118 and President of the North Vancouver Kiwanis Club. He was an innovative leader. Throughout his long illness he showed a remarkable and unflagging spirit. A Memorial Service was held at St. Andrews and St. Stevens Church in North Vancouver. Donations to his memory may be sent to Parkinsons Disease, B.C. Association, 3rd flr. 411 Dunsmuir Ave., Vancouver, B.C. V6B 1X4
