GUSTAV (GUS) OTTO SCHMIDT On Wednesday, December 1, 1999 at the Health Sciences Centre, Gus peacefully went to his eternal home at 84 years of age. He will be so deeply missed and lovingly remembered by Elma, his devoted wife of 51 years and his cherished daughter Barbara of Victoria, B.C. He was predeceased by his immediate family, including his parents, Bertha and Karl; brothers, George, Henry, Fred and Charles and sisters, Olga and Tillie. He will also be fondly remembered by many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, including his devoted friend Bernard. Gus was born on February 2, 1915 in Libau, Man. where he lived and farmed most of his life. He retired in 1983 and moved to Selkirk where he enjoyed his daily walks and socializing at the Gordon Howard Senior Centre. In his younger days, Gus was an avid hunter and trapper. Gus will always be remembered as a kind, gentle, humble man of his word who treasured his family and friends. At his request cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Selkirk, where he was a faithful, longtime member. Pastor Terry Throndson will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined. Contributions in Gus memory may be made instead to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
