JUDY WILLOWS It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving and lovely daughter Judy on Thursday morning December 2, 1999 after a lengthy illness, at her home in New York City. Judy Willows, mother, restauranteur, art and music lover, businesswoman, hostess and active participant in a number of charitable organizations. She was the founder of Music Omi, a residency program for musicians and president of the Columbia County Council on the Arts. She was also president of the Maternity Center Association and a director of the Art Omi International Arts Center. She was the creator of Swallows Restaurant in Winnipeg and Mono: An American Bistro in New York City, which Hal Rubenstein of New York Magazine, called "Stylish and uncompromising...Excellent." She was also a founding partner in Encore Jewelry Design and a partner in The Works Gallery on Madison Avenue. Judy was appreciated as an effortless hostess by a large circle of friends. Her ability to marshal a dinner for 20 with a few hours notice or a party for 100 with little more effort set the stage, but it was her fervour to celebrate life and her irrepressible generosity that defined her great style. Judys joie de vivre was legendary and she was an inspiration to her many friends. In spite of the death of her second son, Alexander, at age two, and her long illness, she always remained positive, concerned for others and in love with life. Judy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1948 and has resided in the United States for 20 years, with homes in Ghent, Long Island and Manhattan. She was married to Francis Greenburger, a well-known real estate investor and literary agent. She is survived by her sons Lee of Winnipeg, Morgan and Noah of New York City, her brother Ross, her parents Adele and Ross Willows, Sr. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4 at The Cathedral of Saint John the Devine in New York City. If so desired, donations may be sent to the Maternity Center Association at 281 Park Avenue South, New York, N.Y. 10010.

  • There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of you. My whole being is driven by how beautiful you were as a person. I love you and miss you dearly. - Posted by: Morgan (Son) on: Aug 11, 2020

  • Judy's name came up by chance in a conversation, so I Googled and came up with this sad news. Last heard of her during a dinner with Rosalie Goldstein here in Ottawa around 1996. Judy, Rosalie and I were all on the Board of the Folk Festival together in the mid 70's. And I was was a guest "chef" at Swallows, Easter 1977. Judy always had style and energy and Joie de Vivre. Glad she had some excellent years in New York. Sad her passing came way too soon and that her last years were clouded by illness. - Posted by: Hal Doran (Colleague) on: Feb 03, 2015
