JAMES MELVIN (MEL) GILROY Mel passed away at the age of 92 in the early hours of December 11 at the Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg. His wife Muriel predeceased him in 1992. They had no children of their own, but will be missed be his many great nephews and nieces in Winnipeg, of whom he was very fond. He was born in Winnipeg in 1907. Mel worked in many capacities such as mining, farming and cutting timber. He will be best remembered for working in the trucking industry for 35 years with MacArthurs Trucking in Brandon. Where he lived for these years, and eventually retired at the age of 68 in 1975. He had many stories to tell about his truck driving days, including one story of how Jimmy Hoffa put a revolver to his head. A very astute man, with a sharp mind to the end, he will be missed by his extended family who looked after him since he moved to Winnipeg in 1993. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place, and no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Grace General Hospital Foundation.
