MICHAEL PATRICK FITZGERALD On December 13, 1999, Michael (Mickey) FitzGerald passed away peacefully with his family by his side, at the age of 85 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Michael was predeceased by his wife Jessie. Michael will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Maureen, her husband Peter, her daughter Dana and son Brooke; his daughter Seonaid, her husband Harry, her sons, Bobbi, Josh, Aaron, Brent and Zen and her daughter Delores; his twin daughters, Mary and Angela; his son Sean, his wife Jacquline and son Michael. Michael will also be dearly missed by his three great-granddaughters, Kami-Rae, Taylor and Arrah. Michael was born in Plymouth, England in 1914. In 1930, at the age of 16, Michael immigrated to Canada and began working for the Ontario Forestry Services. In 1933, Michael started his first underground mining job at the Jackson Manion Mine in Woman Lake in Ontario. In 1942, Michael obtained a mining job in Flin Flon, Manitoba with HBMS. In late 1942, Michael met Jessie Mae McNab and on April 6, 1946, they were wed at the St. James Church in Flin Flon, Manitoba. In the winter of 1950, Michael and Jessie moved to the new town of Lynn Lake, Manitoba. Michael worked in the mines of Lynn Lake for more than 30 years, with many of those years in the capacity of shift boss and diamond drill foreman. In September of 1995, after the death of his beloved wife on January 18, 1994, Michael moved to the southern Manitoba town of Neepawa. While living in Neepawa, Michael made many friends in the community of whom he cherished. In the last weeks of his life, his friends cared for and helped him and his family, with many of the difficult matters associated with his illness and eventual departure from his mortal bonds. For this help and caring of our father, we are eternally grateful and will never be able to repay your kindness. Michael was much more than just a father to us, he was our foundation and guidance and will live in our hearts and memories forever. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Whites Funeral Home, 271 Mountain Ave., Neepawa, Manitoba. In lieu of other attributes, memorials in his memory may be given to the Childrens Hospital Foundation, CE501, 840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1. A special thanks to Dr. O.J. White, the nurses and staff at the Neepawa District Memorial Hospital for their compassion and caring.
