Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNIKOLAI (NICK) THIESSEN On December 12, 1999 at the Grace Hospital, Nick Thiessen, beloved husband of Mary, of Winnipeg, formerly of Poplar Point, died at the age of 93 and one half years. Born on June 10, 1906 in Muntau, Russia, where he received his formal and vocational education. His family immigrated to Canada in 1924 and settled into the fertile farm district of Baie St. Paul, Manitoba. In 1935 he met and married his beautiful bride, Mary Dyck of Winnipeg and began farming and raising a family. He played an active role in the church planting and leadership of the Marquette Mennonite Brethren Church where many family friendships and spiritual growth blossomed. By 1944, he embarked into a new venture and started a successful John Deere dealership in Poplar Point while continuing to operate the homestead farm near the village of St. Eustache, MB. Eventually, retirement would lead him to Winnipeg. Here he was an active Charter Member of the Westwood Community Church where he remained the most active Senior Member to his final day. Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Margaret (Bill) Rempel, Betty (Herman) Rempel, Alice (Vernon) Voth, Agnes (Werner) Koop; and one son Dan (Nicole) Thiessen; 13 grandchildren and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren; also two brothers, Cornelius and Peter, both of British Columbia; and other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 16 at 1:30 p.m. at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Dr. Interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westwood Building Fund, or Mennonite Brethren Communication (Russian Ministry), available at the service.
