JOHANN (JOHN) ALFRED LENCHUK
Date of Passing: Dec 13, 1999
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHANN (JOHN) ALFRED LENCHUK On December 13, 1999, after a brief illness, John Lenchuk, 88 years old, peacefully passed away at the Grace Hospital. Dad was born and raised near Gimli, MB. He was a commercial fisherman before becoming a carpenter. In 1937 he married Mary Wawrykow. From 1952 until September he resided in St. James in homes he built himself. He also built a cottage near Gimli where Mom and he spent many wonderful years. Dad will be most remembered for his ability to quietly enter a room of strangers and within an hour be in the midst of conversation with several people, sharing anecdotes and common interests. In his retirement years he particularly enjoyed reading about the natural history of near and distant places and observing behaviour of the birds, rabbits and squirrels he attracted to his feeders. He was very popular with his grandchildren and children of his neighbours because of his kind and gentle manner. We would often find them in and around the house asking him endless questions and showing things of interest. He greatly enjoyed their visits sometimes dragging out the fiddle or harmonica to entertain them further. Predeceased by Mom in 1995, and many of his 12 brothers and sisters, he leaves to celebrate his life, five children, Karl (Pat), Elaine, Joe, Larry (Diane), and Glen (Ev) four sisters, Caroline Kmiec, Cecilia (John) Glowa. Martha Gottfried, and Helen (Harold) Schwartz; six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank the residents and staff of Metro Kiwanis Courts for their thoughts and prayers, and the staff of the Grace Hospital I.C.U. and third floor for their compassionate and professional care. Cremation will take place with mass to be held on Friday, December 17, 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2400 Portage Ave. A graveside service will be held at the family plot in the St. Cyril and Methodis Cemetery in Gimli, MB on Saturday, December 18, at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations may be made to the Christmas Cheer Board or a charity of choice. Surrounded by all that you gave, taught and built for us, Dad, each day we will remember. Now you can rest after a long days work. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
