Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER HENDERSON GRIERSON November 27, 1923 - December 13, 1999 It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our devoted father, grandfather and best friend, Alex Grierson. Surrounded by many of us who loved him, Alex left this world for another more restful place on Monday, December 13, 1999 at the Health Sciences Centre. Alex leaves to mourn his passing, his children, Clark, Catherine (Bill) Hewson, Sheila (Daryl) Reid, Bev Powell; step children, Rick (Gloria) Glawson, Tracy (Danny) Noble and 12 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kathryn, Lindsay (Powell), David, Stephen (Hewson), Kevin, Corey, Daniel (Reid), Aaron, Caleigh (Glawson) and Ashlyn, Tyler (Noble). In addition, he leaves his beloved friend and soul mate Ruby, who cared so lovingly and deeply for him. He leaves also his brother Andrew (Eleanor) of Winnipeg and his brother Charles (Marjorie) of Vancouver and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Andrew in 1951; his mother Chrissy in 1980; his grandson Jordan (Reid) in 1981; and his sister Agnes (Grant) in 1999. Alex was born in Winnipeg to parents, Andrew and Chrissy (nee Patrick) Grierson. He was the third child of four and had many wonderful remembrances of his childhood experiences and adventures growing up on McMillan Avenue (Crestwood). He graduated from Kelvin High School and later attended Angus Commercial College to further his education. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War as a LAC Instrument Mechanic in Dauphin, MB and Gander, NFLD. After the war, Alex returned to Winnipeg. Over the course of his career and in a private capacity, he worked in Flin Flon, MB and Prince Albert, SK for Western Grocers and Mutual Life of Canada. In Yorkton, SK in 1962 he joined the cooperative movement and worked with them until 1988 when he retired from Interprovincial Cooperatives (IPCO) after 26 years of service. He was a past member of Wesley United Church, Prince Albert, serving on the Board of Stewards (Treasurer), AOTS, Kinsmen and a Rotary Club member. He had a significant involvement working with youth through Air Cadets, as a Sqn. Adjutant. Dad loved to golf and spent a lot of years perfecting his game. He was an avid gardener and bird lover. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors all of his life. For many years he enjoyed curling, and until his death, was an active member of two bridge clubs. In more recent years, his grandchildren and all of their varied events gave Grandpa some of his greatest pleasure. He attended hockey, soccer, football, volleyball games, band concerts and parades, and as many family events as physically possible. The family would like to thank the staff of Health Sciences Centre on GH-4 for such warm, kind and compassionate care to our Dad, and to all of us during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the MS Society, or to the Salvation Army. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West with Rev. Carol Fletcher and Rev. Keith Boughton officiating. Our Tribute to DAD, We dont need to say the words, you know whats in our hearts We didnt want you to have to leave, or for us to be apart. We saw how much you struggled; you worked so hard to stay But well have to wait to see you again some future distant day. We know that now you are safe, in Gods loving arms Hell hold you there, warm and secure, far from lifes harms. Well never forget you; you have left us so much of you It is there in our lives; in everything we say and do. We can never thank you enough for all you gave to us You were such a patient, loving man; so seldom raised a fuss. You loved and nurtured and guided us in countless ways You gave us all some courage to cope with troublesome ways. So we know, dear dad if we look for you You wont be very far away Youll be always deep within our hearts Where you know - you will always stay. Thank you for everything Dad, We love you! (composed with love by Bev Powell) Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
