BENJAMIN (BEN) ARTHUR FAWLEY Passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at the age of 76 years. Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Pat Einarson (George), Linda Bedbrook (Richard) grandsons, John (Tracy), James, Scott; granddaughter Wendy (Sean) great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Kristen and Erika. He also leaves one brother Les; sisters-in-law, Connie, Darlene and May; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father in 1975, mother in 1985, brother Norman (Bill) in 1985, sister Jean in 1993, brother Ed in 1995 and his lifelong partner and wonderful wife Elsie in 1997. Ben was born at 134 Morier in 1923 and was raised in St. Vital. At the age of 16 he began his career with the Bank of Montreal, Main Branch in the messengers department until he joined the service in the Second World War. He served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers and then with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders and participated in theatres of action in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was wounded several times and returned home on December 31, 1945. He then continued on with the Bank of Montreal until his retirement in 1982. Ben was hit with polio in 1953 but persevered and fought back with the dedicated help of his wife Elsie and the family. He was able to return to work and served the bank for over 45 years. Ben was well loved by all his family and his many, many friends. He cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with his brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was the "conscience" of the family and our special "worry wart". He remembered all the birthdays and was always ready to help us all. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and "Grandpa Ben". He loved being with all the kids particularly at the cabin in Arnes where he enjoyed the campfires; sing-a-longs and being in our fun filled grand central station. He was a member and Past Master of Red River Lodge # 172; King Edward Perceptory #24; Price of Whales Chapter # 11; the Scottish Rite, Khartum Shrine and a life member as Treasurer Emeritus of the Khartum Temple Patrol. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. with Rev. Karen Binding officiating. Interment to follow in St. Vital Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, granddaughter and nephews. John and James Einarson, Scott and Wendy Bedbrook, Sean Goodlow, Mark, Jeff, and Gregg Fawley. Honorary pallbearers will be all the Nobles of the Khartum Flag Patrol. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Bens memory may be made to the New Shrine Temple Building Fund, in care of 529 Wellington Cres., Winnipeg, MB R3M OA5.
