DAN "BABE" SOMERS Suddenly, on December 16, 1999, at the Middlechurch Home, Dan "Babe" Somers passed away at the age of 91 years. Dan was born in Winnipeg November 8, 1908. He met and married Carol Novak. Dan will be sadly missed by his son Danny and wife Betty; grandchildren, Tanya and Dean; sister Kay. He was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, John and Steven and two sisters, Minnie and Mary. During his early years, Dan worked in the Gold Mines in southern Ontario. During the depression he found employment in Chicago and spent time there before returning to Winnipeg. He was a Trainman with the C.P.R., retiring in 1973. Dan enjoyed playing semi-pro baseball where he earned the nickname "Babe" for his hitting ability. The family wish to sincerely thank the caregivers at the Middlechurch Home for all their care, kindness and support shown to Dan and his family. Private family funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dans memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Manitoba Division, 102 - 310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 0S6.
