HULDA HILLER (WUSCHKE) Peacefully, surrounded by her family, on December 13, 1999 at Concordia Hospital, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was called home to rest in the arms of the Lord, after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her husband Christoph in 1945; her sister Bertha and her brothers, Rudolf, Adolf and Alexander. Mom was born the youngest child of Christoph and Kristina Wuschke on January 2, 1922 in Syski, Poland. On November 6, 1941 she married Christoph Hiller and lovingly adopted his five children as her own. The family resided in Sepno, Poland until January 1945 at which time she and her five youngest children were evacuated to Germany by train where her two eldest children were already attending school. In June of that year she returned to Poland with five of her six children in search of her husband and on this trip she gave birth to her youngest son, Bruno. Upon arrival she was arrested, placed in a work camp and her six children were disbursed to various Polish farm families. In 1949 with the help of family, friends and the International Red Cross, she located five of her six displaced children, leaving behind baby Bruno, and moved the family to a new home in Soellichau, East Germany. With the help of her sister Bertha, sheer determination and hard work, she finally located Bruno who was eventually returned to her in 1953. On May 29, 1955 Mom immigrated to Canada with her five younger children to reunite them with her eldest son and daughter. In 1956 she moved to Winnipeg and started to work at Dominion Poultry Sales where she remained until the company closed in 1961. she then took a job in the laundry department of the Old Grace Hospital transferring to the Health Sciences Centre when the laundry facilities were amalgamated. She remained there until her retirement in 1986. Mom had a strong faith in God which was demonstrated by her dedication and involvement in her church, the German Ladies Aide Group (Tabca) and the German Church Choir. She was a strong believer in family, hard work and loyal friendships. She was known for her crocheting, quilt making, but most of all she was an excellent cook and well loved by everyone for her famous "Streusel Kuchen". Mom will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Edward (Agnes), Lottie Stoiber, Leo, Arno (Renate), Willie (Victoria), Arthur (Annegret) and Bruno (Dehlia). Also left to mourn are 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, extended family and many dear friends in Canada, Germany and Poland. The family would like to thank the staff at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre and the staff at Concordia Hospital for their care, consideration and compassion during this difficult time. We would also like to thank her friends who brought joy to her life with their visits, but most of all we give thanks to God for our caring mother. Viewing and prayers will take place on Sunday, December 19 at the Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington St. on Monday, December 20 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba, 1 - 20 Donald St., R3C 4G2 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., R3B 2H8. Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. in care of arrangements, 338-0331. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, So He closed His arms around you And whispered, "Come to Me." You didnt deserve what you went through, So He gave you rest. Gods garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. And when we saw you sleeping So peaceful and free from pain We could not wish you back To suffer that again. We all love you
