SHIRLEY GERTRUDE (ROCHE) EINARSON Peacefully on December 16, 1999 with her family at her side, Shirley, beloved wife, mother, amma, sister and aunt passed away at the Womens Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Otto and Veiga Roche; daughter Jolene; sisters, Margaret and Josie; and brother Wilfred. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 45 years Jonas; daughters, Colleen, Rhonda (Roy) son Nolan; granddaughter Taylor; and grandson Trace. Shirley also leaves her sisters, Ruth (Asgeir) and Ottoline; brothers, Art (Phyllis), Victor, William, Gordon (Lil), Harold and Lloyd (Jeannette) as well as Mugga (Jack) brothers-in-law, Steve (Kathy) and Lawrence; sisters-in-law, Gerti (Einar), Ethel (Mundi), Inga and Thorunn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was born April 18, 1935 on the family farm in Hnausa, MB. In 1954 she married Jonas. They lived in Dauphin for one year before moving back to Hnausa. In 1967 they moved to Winnipeg where she resided until her passing. Shirley and Jonas, along with their family, spent many summer vacations, travelling across Canada with the URO, including both Expos. In addition, the summers were spent at Vatnsnes. Special thanks to her doctors and the nursing staff at the Manitoba Cancer Foundation and the Womens Hospital for their compassion and care. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 20 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 400 Rouge Rd., with Pastor David Knudson officiating. Family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Shirley can be made to the Manitoba Cancer and Research Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 9Z9.
