Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGWENDOLYN FLORENCE HARRIS (nee SMITH) After a lengthy illness, Gwen passed away, at the age of 87, at Golden West Centennial Lodge (Salvation Army) with her niece and caregiver, Emily, at her side on Friday evening, December 17, 1999. She was predeceased by her husband Tom; sisters, Kitt Parker, Ivy Wade, and Dorothy (Doll) Clarke. Gwen will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Eileen Taylor and Norma McQueen; nieces and nephews Dorothy Latour, Bruce Parker, Leonard Wade, Janis Peters, Barrie Clarke, Beverley Yuill, Jim Taylor, Don Taylor, Ken Taylor, Gordie McQueen, Marilyn Bowes, Emily McQueen, Lewis McQueen, Gwen Williams, Mavis Taylor, Bob Harris, Linda Campbell, George Cotton and Ellen Hill (Long), as well as many cousins, great nieces, great nephews and other family and friends. She loved her Pekinese dogs, driving her car to B.C. to see the mountains, feeding and watching the birds in her backyard, crocuses, her garden, making jelly, canning, going to the cottages at Grand Beach and Sunset Beach, Travelog shows, curling, bowling, knitting, crocheting, baking pies, dainties and sweets of all kinds, music, dancing, the Free Press Jumble, making and flying kites, going to the Zoo, making crafts, children, and the family reunions and family picnics at Kildonan Park and Assiniboine Park. Gwen volunteered as a Brownie Owl, Girl Guide Leader, delivered Meals on Wheels, collected for the Heart Fund, had a Foster Child through World Vision, was a member of the Ich Dien Service Club which would raise funds and donate the proceeds to various charities, they also volunteered at the old Deer Lodge Veterans Hospital Canteen on Sunday nights. The family wishes to thank Dr. Griggs and the staff at the Golden West Lodge fourth and second floors for the great care they gave to Gwen. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 3:00 p.m., at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A gathering of friends and family will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Gwens memory to the Alzheimers Society or the Salvation Army.
