DIETRICH DERKSEN Our father, Dietrich Derksen, passed away peacefully at Bethania Personal Care Home on Sunday, December 19, 1999. He was born May 2, 1903 in Einlage, Ukraine. In October, 1942 he, with his wife and children fled Russia and settled in Munich, Germany where he was employed by Donnier Werke as machinist until the end of the Second World War. In 1948, the family immigrated to Canada and settled in Morris, Manitoba, where they resided until 1954, when they moved to Winnipeg. Here he worked for Bristol Aircraft and Monarch Machinery until his retirement. Following his retirement he enjoyed his hobby of handcrafts, tending his little garden in the summer and travelling south in the winter for several months. He was predeceased by his wife Tina in 1974; one son in 1942 and one son in infancy. He is survived by his son John with his wife Hedie; grandchildren David (Dianne) and their children Danton, Conner and Kieran of Newton Manitoba; grandchildren, Gary (Irene) of Winnipeg. The Derksen family would like to thank the staff at Bethania for the professional and compassionate care Dad received. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethania Personal Care Home Chapel, 1045 Concordia Avenue, with viewing prior to the service, Rev. Gerhard Friesen officiating. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethania Spiritual Care Fund. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
