MYRTLE BERGSON (MCKAY) Formerly of Amaranth, Manitoba Peacefully, on December 17, 1999, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother passed away just short of her 91st year in the Third Crossing Manor at Gladstone, Manitoba. Myrtle was born December 27, 1908 in Dunseith, North Dakota and was raised in Amaranth, Manitoba. Mom married Archie Bergson on March 2, 1925 at Amaranth enjoying 51 years of marriage before the passing of Archie in 1976. Her parents, Dan and Nancy McKay; husband Archie; brothers, Arthur, Roy, Edward, Walter; sister Florence; grandsons, Larry and Tommy Bergson; granddaughter Noreen Mozdzen and great grandson Kevin Turko predeceased Myrtle. Leaving to mourn her passing are sons, Einar (Elsie), Harry (Evelyn), Joe (Lorrie), Roy (Carol), Steve (Joyce) and Daddy (Judy) Bergson; daughters, Gwen (Russ) Lanoway, Margaret (Gerry) Barron; 23 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Anderson, Bert Magel, Pearl Green; brother Clem (Harriet) McKay; sisters-in-law, Svava (Bergson) McCorquodale, Lillian (Hanson) Bergson and many special nieces and nephews. Myrtle, along with Archie will be remembered as highly respected neighbours of everyone in the surrounding Smalley School District and Amaranth communities. Mom was an integral part of the family farm. Her cooking, baking, cleaning, canning, knitting, doing laundry, the making of school lunches and other household chores for a family of eight children (mostly without benefit of electricity or running water) were fit into a schedule which included the farm chores and working alongside Archie on Lake Manitoba fishing in the winter. Her life and focus were her family and for them, her energy was boundless. Each and every one of her 23 grandchildren could relate their favourite "Grandma" story and will surely cherish her memory forever. The Myrtle Bergson home was always open to family and friends. In later years major highlights for Myrtle were the picnics where the family and all the extended family would return to the farm or as some called it "the park" by the lake for a fun-filled weekend together. Fneral services will be held Wednesday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m. in the Amaranth Community Hall with nephew Vince Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Amaranth Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Lee, Patrick, Wayne, Perry, Garry Bergson and Tyler Lanoway. All Myrtles friends attending the service will be considered as honourary pallbearers. The family of Myrtle Bergson wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the nursing staff and all the caregivers at the Third Crossing Manor in Gladstone where Myrtle had resided for the past four years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Amaranth Community Cemetery Fund forwarded in care of Amaranth and District Recreation Committee, P.O.
