VERA NOREEN WADDELL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother on December 17, 1999 at Tuxedo Villa in Winnipeg, at the age of 79. Left to mourn her passing are her husband of 57 years, Donald R. Waddell; daughters, Janice Jevning, Patricia Ottara, Andrea Bryden and son Roy Waddell; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Perle Hadfield, Norma Henley and brother Claude Saul. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Bertha Saul and brother Lester. Vera was raised in St. James, MB. She was very active in track, and was the first woman to be named Athlete of the Year at St. James Collegiate in 1938. After completing her education at Dominion Business School she was employed at T. Eaton Co. November 2, 1942 she was married to Donald Waddell of Sperling, MB. On Donalds return from overseas they moved to Sperling where they farmed for 14 years. They have resided in Emerson since 1964. Vera was employed by Canada Customs and Immigration until her retirement in 1980. Vera enjoyed reading, curling, golf, was an active member and past President of the Legion Auxiliary, member of Eastern Star, and life member of the Royal Purple. She also enjoyed her family, visiting with friends and many warm winters in Mesa, Arizona. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the home care staff for their many years of devoted care. A special thank you to the staff at Emerson Hospital and Tuxedo Villa. Funeral services will be held at the Emerson United Church in Emerson, MB on Wednesday, December 22 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Calder officiating. Reception at New Horizons immediately following the service. Interment in Sperling Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, Ste. 105-368 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6 or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. In tears we saw you sinking We watched you fade away, You suffered much in silence You fought so hard to stay. You faced your task with courage Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired When a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you And whispered, "Come with Me". So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back To suffer that again. You will be in our hearts forever. Doyles of Carman in care of arrangements.
