ELENORE ANNA STRONG The family of Elenore Anna Strong (nee Pickel) wishes to announce her peaceful passing at the Rosewood Village in Winnipeg on Tuesday, December 21, 1999. Elenore was born in Edmonton, AB, on December 17, 1909, the daughter of Lila May (nee Tillen) and Kenneth Cecil Pickel. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Robert Strong and by her only brother, Kenneth Layland. Family members who lovingly cherish her memory are daughter, Susan, and her husband, Wayne Barker of Toronto and son Douglas, his wife, Carol, of Winnipeg, as well as grandsons Russell and Trevor and granddaughter, Katherine; nieces Mary Stemp in Melbourne, Australia, Marion Lush of Toronto and Margaret Cooke of Elsa, Illinois; nephews Bob Beckingham of St. Andrews, MB, Ken and George Layland of London, ON, and Bill Layland of Halifax, NS; and the Firmstone cousins in Calgary. Elenore actively participated in her church work, enjoyed sewing and had a flair for interior decorating. She always looked forward to her next move, planning the layout and decor. For fourteen years, she ran a guest hotel in Toronto where she greeted visitors from all over the world. Upon her husbands retirement, together they designed, built and managed an apartment building in Peterborough, ON. In recent years, Elenore moved to Winnipeg where she enjoyed the company of new friends and loved to tour the mall on her electric scooter. She will be especially remembered for her sense of adventure and generosity of spirit. Visitation will be held in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, on Thursday, December 23 from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow on Friday, December 24, at 11:00 a.m., also in the Thomson Funeral Chapels. Elenore will be interred next to her husband at Little Lake Cemetery in Peterborough, ON. The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Rosewood Village for their exceptional care of Elenore and to all of mothers friends who gave so generously of their support and encouragement.
