DAVID WILLIAM SURTEES October 27, 1922 - December 24, 1999 It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing, on Christmas Eve, of our beloved Husband, Dad and Grandpa Dave. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion; daughter Lynne Martin and son-in-law Mike; son Dean; grandchildren, Kristen, Grant and Todd Martin, Misty and Marlee Surtees and great-granddaughter Tia. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Bob Moog, Sandy Young; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Maguire, Shirley Moog, Betty Surtees (Winnipeg), Betty Surtees (Saskatoon), Gail Goranson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sister Muriel; and brothers, Bert, Les and Bob. Dave served 38 years with the Canadian Armed Forces retiring with the rank of Major in 1973. He played professional football for the Regina Roughriders in the early 40s. His passion was golf and upon retirement he served as the Pro at Assiniboine Golf Club for four years and then spent 20 years at the St. Charles Golf and Country Club, retiring in October 1998. He was so proud of his ring and watch presented to him on his 10th and 20th anniversaries at St. Charles. Over the years Dave was involved with the Winnipeg Minor Hockey League, was Executive Director of the Canadian Professional Golf Association and was currently a member of St. Charles Golf and Country Club, the Granite Curling Club and St. James Legion #4. He also volunteered for many years at the Christmas Cheer Board and most recently with the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. Dave and Marion spent many winters holidaying in Lo Jolla, California and latterly in Mesa, Arizona where they made many lasting friendships. Dave was a devoted husband and spent the last few years taking great care of Marion. He was the most loving husband, dad and grandpa, and we will all miss his immensely. A job well done dear Dad. Rest in peace til we meet again. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service, 10:00 a.m., Tuesday December 28 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. We consider all his family and friends as honorary pallbearers.
