ANTIN DOBRIANSKY Peacefully, on Friday, December 24, 1999 at Seven Oaks Hospital, Antin Dobriansky, Ukrainian political activist, journalist, passed away at the age of 90 years. Antin was born January 27, 1909 in the village of Shopky, region of Peremyshly, Ukraine to Ivan and Maria Dobriansky. He graduated from the Middle School in Lviv in 1930. Following the war, he had the opportunity to further his studies in forestry and horticulture at the Free Ukrainian University in Munich. Antin met and married his wife Louise Kussinger in Germany and together they came to Canada in 1951. In 1952 he began a career with "New Pathway" (Ukrainian Weekly), first as a proofreader, then co-editor, and finally as editor-in-chief from 1965-1973 when he retired. He continued to contribute to several publications after his retirement. Antin was a longtime member of the Ukrainian National Federation as well as being active in many other Ukrainian organizations and supporter of the arts (choral groups and dance ensembles). Antin was also a horticulturalist and spent countless hours happily attending to his flowers and garden in which he took much pleasure. He also kept bees and enjoyed making honey for his family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Louise in 1982; a brother in Ukraine, and a sister in the United States. Antin will be sadly missed by his two sons, Rusty and his wife Kathy, and Roman and his wife Karen; as well as his three grandchildren, Adam, Kirsten and Oles, all of whom he loved dearly and was very proud. Also left to mourn are his two brothers and their families in Ukraine and England and niece Rostyslava in the United States. Memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 29 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children of Chernobyl Fund care of Ukrainian Canadian Congress at 456 Main St. or a charity of ones choice. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gorski and the 3rd floor nursing staff of Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassion and care. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
