Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELAINE WIEBE With her family by her side (Alice) Elaine Wiebe died Saturday, December 25, 1999 in Concordia Hospital after a short illness. Elaine was born January 14, 1939 in Brandon and grew up on her parents farm in the R.M. of Elton north of Brandon. She was educated at Clinton and Forrest schools, Brandon Collegiate and the Wheat City Business College. She met her husband Dave Wiebe in Brandon in 1959 and they were married in 1961. Elaine moved to Winnipeg in 1960 and embarked on a satisfying career in office work. Starting at Building Products and Concrete, she moved on to Marshall Wells for ten years and then to J.M. Balcaen and Sons where she worked for another ten years until her recent illness. She and Dave settled in Transcona where Elaine coached, refereed and managed teams for the Transcona Ringette Association for 23 years. An avid sports fan, she derived great pleasure from attending the ringette games of her daughter Lori and the hockey and football games of her son Rob when they were growing up. She was also a strong supporter of the Winnipeg NHL Jets and then the Manitoba Moose. Other sources of joy to her were her grandchildren, the flowers in her yard and all the animals including the family dogs. Elaine is survived by her husband Dave; daughter Lori (Ron Dubinsky), Dugald; son Rob (Diane), Calgary; and grandchildren, Jordyn and Nicholas. Also surviving her are a sister Janice Newman (Roger), Gimli; and two brothers, Murray Guild (Joanne), Brandon; and Alan Guild (Wilma), Kelowna, B.C. She was predeceased by her son Jeffrey; her parents, Jim and Bernice Guild and a sister Betty. Elaine will always be remembered by her family as a loving, caring individual who lived her life with zest and joy. She had a strong sense of family that she inherited from her parents and always made an effort to keep in touch with friends and relatives. She also had a way with children and was affectionately known as the "Toy Grandma". Prayers for Elaine and viewing will take place Tuesday, December 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. Funeral will be held Wednesday, December 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West, with interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. The Transcona Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Donations in Elaines name may be made to the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, R3E 0V9.
