GEORGE WILLIAM SADLER On Thursday, December 23, 1999 at the Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall, George Sadler, aged 90 years of Stonewall. Dad was born and raised in Elgin, Man. He attended Manitoba Normal School and taught in one room schools until the start of the war. He joined the R.C.A.F. as a flight instructor, serving in Manitoba. At the end of the war he attended the University of Manitoba on the Veterans Bill. After graduating, the family moved to Pine Falls, where he was a teacher and principal of the local school. In 1957 the family moved to Stonewall. As school inspector he was instrumental in the formation of the Interlake School Division. The library at the Stonewall Collegiate was named after him as a tribute to his service to the students and teachers of this area. In his younger days, Dad was an avid curler and he always enjoyed a game of cards. After his retirement, he started training thoroughbred horses and took up golf, which he pursued until he had his stroke. Family was always a top priority - he was so proud of the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Rosewood Lodge for their excellent care during the last two and a half years. George was predeceased by his wife Gwen in 1973; daughter Marilyn Jean in 1969, two sisters and one brother. Surviving are one daughter Margaret Hegion (Richard) of Regina; grandchildren, Heather Reid (Scott), Brent (Colleen), Shelley; son Allan (Aurora) of North Vancouver, B.C.; grandchildren, William and Elaine; son Doug (Wendy Loar) of St. Albert, Alta.; grandchildren, Matthew and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Cody Hegion; two brothers, Orville (Vi) of Elgin, Man. and Len of Victoria, B.C.; one sister Muriel Peck of Mississauga, Ont.; brother-in-law Ken (Kelly) Matthews of Vancouver and sisters-in-law, Joyce, Pat and Ruth Matthews of Vancouver and Arlene (Lloyd) Lovie of Winnipeg, Man. A memorial service will be held in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall on Wednesday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Bruce Miles will officiate, interment to follow in the Stonewall Cemetery. Friends who so desire may make donations to the Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of the arrangements.
