Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLENNA LOUISE CRIGGAR, R.N. (nee McARTON) On Thursday, December 23, 1999, surrounded by the family she dearly loved, Glenna, age 59 years, passed away peacefully at the Grace General Hospital after a short and courageous battle with cancer and was the beloved wife and partner of A. Gordon of Winnipeg. Glenna was born in Ramsay Twp, Lanark County, Ontario on November 25, 1940 and was the youngest daughter of Harry (Henry A.) and Hannah McArton (nee Turner). With the passing of her father at an early age, the family moved into Carleton Place and as Glenna grew up there, she was actively involved in the Zion United Church, Young Peoples, C.G.I.T., and the 4-H Club. Thus began her appreciation for home making - she always made our house welcome to everyone especially for family gatherings and staff celebrations. At age 16, Glenna met Gordon, who would become her lifelong partner and mate. During their dynamic marriage, they travelled extensively throughout Canada and Europe. Another highlight for Glenna was an East Asia trip with her husband given by Cheryl and Allen upon her retirement from Nursing. Mom and Dads love and commitment to each other was an example to us all. Glenna graduated from the Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing in 1962 and was employed in the Chilliwack and Richmond, BC; Yellowknife, NWT; Ottawa, ON (Queensway Carleton) and Winnipeg, MB (Grace General) Hospitals, as she supported Gord in his military career. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 34 years; her calm, reassuring and compassionate nature was a constant. Upon retiring after approximately 13 years in the Emergency Department at the Grace General Hospital, Mom focused her time and care attending to her mother; visiting with grandchildren, family and friends and she enjoyed volunteering with the Ladies Auxiliary of ANAF - Unit 283. In her spare time she created wonderful cross stitch pieces that are cherished as gifts by family and friends she held very close. Gammas enjoyment playing with playdough, watching curling, and the birdies, squirrels, moon and stars are special bonds she shared with her young grandchildren. Besides her loving husband and partner, Gordon of 37 years of marriage, remaining to forever cherish Glennas memory are her daughter Cheryl Krueger (Tony) and their children, Hannah and Alexandrea of Edmonton, AB; son Allen and his special friend Chantal Hemery of Winnipeg, MB; her mother Mrs. Hannah McArton and sister Marilyn Sagert (Norman) of Winnipeg, MB; nieces, Tanya Knopf (Loren) of Kenora, ON, Heather Ayres (Eric) of Oakbank, MB, Glenys Vanstone (Howard) of Brantford, ON; great-nieces and nephews, as well as numerous relatives and friends in Ontario and across Canada. A Service of Remembrance celebrating Glennas life will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. with Major Don Maye officiating. A gathering for family and friends will follow in the Rainbow Room in the Church immediately following moms service. A private interment will be held at a later time and date in the United Cemeteries, Carleton Place, Ontario. Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Cheryl T., Judy, Marna, Bob and the Grace Pharmacy Staff; the Grace ER Staff that worked with mom; the Nurses and HCA Staff of GH - 6 (Health Sciences) and 4 West (Grace General) Gloria K and staff at the Cancer Foundation; and finally, to Doctors Van Horne, Parham, Chowdhury and Mulder. Floral arrangements are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Glennas memory to the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to the Palliative Care Unit, Grace General Hospital, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. For it is written, "He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone." Luke 4:10 - 11 Glennas family has entrusted her arrangements to the care of: WOJCIKS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897-4665
